DARK LINE IS ONLY A SHADOW. Original US Navy commissioning document signed by Theodore Roosevelt Jr., Acting Secretary of the Navy in 1921 while Warren G. Harding was President. Previously, Roosevelt served as an Army officer in World War I. He saw combat as commander of the 26th regimnet of the "Big Red One". During combat operations, Roosevelt was gassed and wounded, receiving the Distinguished Service Cross for his action during the war. Between the World War I and II Roosevelt was one of the originators and founders of the American Legion. Later, Roosevelt served as the govenor of Puerto Rico and as Govenor-General of the Philippines. Theodore Roosevelt Jr. went on to serve as a General in the US Army in WW II, again serving as the Commander of the 26th Regimnet of the First Infantry Division. He saw combat in the invasion of North Africa and Sicily. A courageous officer, Roosevelt served as a general in the 4th Infantry Division and landed at Utah beach during D Day on the first assault on the beach, the only general to do so. One month after D Day, Roosevelt died in France and is buried at Normandy. Thomas William White was commissioned as a Navy Ensign in the reserve component of the Navy. The document has historical vignettes. Battleships with cage masts are displayed as well as destroyers, Neptune, and early Navy amphibious aircraft. Document has official Navy wax emblem. No Reserve.
