This Buckle with the proud ship in relief can be brought back to original condition and is in perfect working order, some spots verdigrised by time, as the ship's career began in June 1954. Commissioned in January of 1955 until she was taken out of service. Newport was tanker's home port but she served from Naples, Italy to provide support to the 6th Fleet during tense times in the Middle East. Her returns to US waters were infrequent except for overhauls and to modernize her capabilities with addition of a helipad. Other deployments were to the Atlantic from Newfoundland to the Caribbean and then NATO exercises in Norway. To learn about her illustrious career, please read more on the web. This beautiful buckle, originally for sale in the ship's store, is to be owned proudly by military collectors or anyone who will treasure it as a part of 50 years of Naval history.
