This is great! Purchased by me when I was in high school, this is dated 1969 in the small print. There are books on the corners in the picture because this was stored rolled up for many years and has a tendency to curl up. It is a zodiac design for Leo the Lion and was designed by Gerry & Joe Simboli for Poster Prints, according to the small print at the top right of the poster. From what I can find out, the Simbolis were asked to design 12 zodiac prints in 1969 for Poster Prints which was a very large poster company. The posters were very popular. Then in 2004, Sir Paul Smith (a UK fashion designer) used the designs as the basis for a line of his casual clothing which was sold in Neiman Marcus, among other places. A limited number of the original posters are available for sale from Gerry & Joe Simboli's studio and have a price tag of $175! The poster measures about 24 1/4" x 35" on medium weight paper. The colors are swirly and vibrant, with orange, olive green, yellow, brown, and light purple on a dark purple background. This one was displayed on a number of bedroom and dorm room walls and carries the marks of a well-loved poster. There are a number of tack holes and a small bit of the lower left corner is missing. There is some old tape on the back and also some rough spots on the back where it looks like tape was removed. There are a few tears - one on the middle of the right edge (this is the biggest one - 1 1/2"), one on the lower left edge, and one on the bottom edge. I think matting or trimming would take care of all these edge imperfections. A truly wonderful and hard-to-find 1960's poster for your collection or to dress up your favorite Leo's wall!
