Boudoir size vintage powder box. Fashioned for use on a lady’s vanity table, to hold loose face powder and a soft puff applicator, as was the custom of the 1920s, -30s, -40s. It is a charming Art Nouveau piece that has been in my private collection for more than 60 years. As a signed piece, this box is highly collectible. The metal powder box is enameled in Cobalt blue and stands on four diminutive ball feet, also metal. The box is oval in shape. It measures 3¾-inches side-to-side, 2¾-inches front-to-back, and stands 2¼ inches high. Decorating the lid is the embossed silver-hued butterfly and floral motif that is Lucretia Vanderbilt’s signature. Attached to the inside of the lid is the powder puff holder on which is handsomely inscribed Lucretia Vanderbilt New York. The box has been well cared for and is in good condition; signs of use are consistent with its age. No dents; some chips appear on the enameled edges (see photos). The hinge, the ball feet, and the powder puff holder are all firmly secure. The ball feet are perfectly smooth and will not scratch a polished surface.
