Up for auction is a shadow box containing tobacco (the tobacco is the bottom section, 3 plugs of tobacco across) and vintage tin embossed sweep-stakes. I have researched this piece and have dated Sweep-stakes Tobacco to be from 1906 and earlier. I am sure someone familiar with tobacco history will know more about this unusual piece. The tin is heavy and gold on front and silver on back. It is embossed SWEEP STAKES in the shape of an "S" . The shadow box is 13 inches tall and 13 inches wide. This piece was purchased in North Carolina. The man I bought it from said it originated in Stokes County, NC. My research indicates it could have been possibly Georgia. Condition - EXCELLENT !!!
