Veiled Prophet Souvenirs (3), 1941 Large Brass Matchbox Cover, 1974 Glass Plate with invitation imprinted and 10 1/2" Vernon Kiln blue and white plate depicting Veiled Prophet in center surrounded by parade floats from Cuba, Chile, Mexico, Canada, Peru and Paraguay. At bottom is a depiction of the Veiled Prophet Ball and on back description of Veiled Prophet. 1) 1941 Veiled Prophet 5"W x2 5/8" deep x almost 2" high brass large matchbox cover, simply done with Vp and 1941 in center top. This was made for the ever popular box of kitchen matches. 2) 1974 Glass palte with white lettering invitation imprinted on center of plate. 3)10 1/2" blue and white Vernon Kiln plate depicting Veiled rophet in center, surrounded by six parade floats from Cuba, Chile, Mexico, Canada, Peru and Paraguay. On the bottom is depicted picture of the Veiled Prophet Ball and on back of plate is description of the Veiled Prophet. <p>The Veiled Prophet is a social event for the debutantes of St. Louis. The Veiled Prophet wore a veil and never showed or let anyone know who he was. The Veiled Prophet was first held in1878. The Veiled Prophet is still a social event in St. Louis and there is an annual parade featuring the float of the Veiled Prophet, crowned Queen and her court. In 1981 an annual festival was held at the Gateway Arch, properly named The Veiled Prophet Fair later to be changed to Fair St. Louis. The organization's many gifts to the city of St. Louis include the electric lighting of the Eads Bridge. For more information on the Veiled Prophet and gifts try to find a copy of John L. Drew III on the subject published in 1985. Finding a copy is no easy feat as the first printing was limited to 2000 copies, each numbered. <p>Shipping in the U.S. is $9.00 and world wide shipping is actual.
