- RUSSIAN NAPOLEONIC SWORD An extremely rare pattern antique early 19th century RussianNapoleonic war period time Sword – Sabre with a brass hilt made in acharacteristic style for an Imperial Russian Award Sword. Details: Abrass hilt cast from three separate elements: a grooved grip, anS-shaped crossguard with typical early 19th century Russian shapedlangets, a backpiece with a ring for the tassel on the pommel. Acurved single edged steel blade with a fuller showing a visibleforging pattern. The overall length is 86.5 cm (34 in). CONDITION: Thegold gilding on the hilt is completely worn out, the blade is withminor wear, since the hilt is made of several elements over the yearsthe elements have loosened and to fix this someone soldered with tinthe backpiece to the crossguard. The sword is in good conditionconsidering its age with minor wear except that the gilding on thebrass hilt is completely worn out. A Russian Award sword from 1814with similar langets and shape of pommel also finished in an iron button is published in the book "Russian Awards Weapon" by V. Durov page 56 and also in "Russian Awards 18th- beginning 20th centuries" by V.Durov page 99.
