This is a vintage coin bank in the shape of a book (5 1/2" x 3 1/2" x 1 1/8" thick) that was made to advertise the Volunteer State Life Insurance Company, of Chattanooga, Tennessee. The outer brown vinyl cover features gold lettering that says Your Future and Thrift on the spine. Inside white plastic book locks into place by means of a key (two included) and has a slot for the various coins. (Only flaw is a tear in the clear plastic on the inner left side; doesn't affect operation.) Back shows it to have been made by the M. A. Garett Corp., Milwaukee, 5, Wisconsin; Pats. Pending. Saving money was considered a very important virtue in days gone by and it was encouraged in many ways. Fun collectible for those who like banks and advertising items!
