This is one of the last Hagenauer Baller items I'll be listing from my Mom's collection. It is unusual in that this is the only Vienna Bronze that she had that comes in the form of a keychain. The 'critter' making up this keychain is a penguin in the normal black color, with brass highlights showing around his (or her) eye, the beak tip, flipper edges, and the fronts of his feet. The backside of the figure has no detail, and except for the head, is flat. The penguin stands a little over 1" tall and is 1/8" thick. There are no markings or logos on the penguin. The penguin has an eyelet on the top of his head which is part of the casting, attached to which is a short, fancy, braided chain with the key holder at the end. The key holder has a sliding latch, and is in full working condition. Stamped on the key holder are the letter: 'D.B.P.a.' which means nothing to me. If the last two letters ('P.a.') stand for the state of Pennsylvania as the point of manufacture for the keychain part, this could indicate that this item came from Rena Rosenthal's store in New York City, meaning this is a Hagenauer item made for Rosenthal. This is strictly a guess (since it is unusual to abbreviate Pennsylvania with a period between the 'P' and the 'a' but on the other hand, my Mom's collection had a fair amount of Rosenthal items in it). The penguin and keychain are in great shape without any dings, dents, or scratches, and make for an interesting Vienna Bronze item. Thanks for looking!
