Description

This is a wonderful piece of folk art. It is a walrus and has been kept as one of a pair for many years.  The walrus are made of green soapstone. They were purchased I believe in George River, Quebec or perhaps at a coop at Hudsons Bay. It is genuine Inuit Eskimo Art. It does have the Canada Igloo sticker on the bottom. It is "signed " on the bottom in Inuit, which based on this keyboard I can't reproduce for you. To the best of our ability we think the artists name is nuina aiskala or something close. The date says N 5.5 1960 under that it looks like a c 76. This is our best discription of what is on the bottom. This walrus and the other one were brought back by my  late husband in the late 1970's. Unfortunately due to financial need they must to be sold.  This walrus measures about 9 inches by 6 inches and is about 3.5 inches wide. This walrus has some wear to him. He has an old chip on his nose and one on his tusk which are very small. There is a more noticable chip on the back leg/flipper/foot it doesn't detract from the appearance and it does not effect the way it stands. These are truely beautiful pieces. They have a wonderful hue of raw talent. I have cherished them for years and hope someone new will also. Any questions please ask. Powered by eBay Turbo ListerThe free listing tool.
