Vintage tickets to a live and highly popular star-studded radio drama series broadcast, "The Big Show", on December 10, 1941 that never got used. Maybe the news of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor three days earlier -- on December 7, 1941 -- suddenly made the prospect of driving into Hollywood and catching Edward G. Robinson as Steve Wilson and Ona Munson as his sidekick, Lorelei Kilbourne, seem frivolous. Or maybe the broadcast got canceled. So the ticket holders tossed them into the fireplace instead. And when we tore out our fireplace during remodeling, there they were, damaged but still legible and redolent of a very different time. Here's what they say: COLUMBIA BROADCASTING SYSTEM COLUMBIA SQUARE PLAYHOUSE 6121 SUNSET BLVD. HOLLYWOOD STUDIO A - CBS THE MAKERS OF RINSO PRESENT EDWARD G. ROBINSON in "BIG TOWN" with ONA MUNSON Wednesday, December 10, 1941 6:30 - 7pm Doors close @ 6:25 pm Children Under 12 Years Will Not be AdmittedOne usually finds vintage beer cans when they renovate so this was a wonderful surprise. (Not that there's anything wrong with beer.) I couldn't bring myself to toss them so I thought I'd see if these meant something to collectors of memorabilia from World War II, vintage Hollywood, the Golden Days of Radio, or, of the brilliant Edward G. Robinson. And let's not forget Ona Munson, who, tragically, committed suicide in New York in 1955 due to health problems. The tickets are faded and darkened but they are clearly legible. I've shown them as they appear in pieces and how the pieces fit together. They measure 1 1/2" x 3 3/4" and the edges are still quite crisp. If one is serious about saving these, they should be professionally preserved. They're very delicate and I'll package them extra-carefully for the winning bidder. US First Class Shipping will be $3.00. I ship worldwide and I try to keep costs as low as possible but International Bidders should please contact me for a shipping quote.Any questions or comments, please e-mail me. Thanks for looking.PS - THE PHOTOS THAT ARE BRIGHTER AND CLEARER -- THOSE TAKEN WITH A FLASH -- ARE THE TRUEST REPRESENTATION OF HOW THE TICKETS APPEAR IN PERSON, ALTHOUGH THEY DO LOOK A BIT BETTER IN PERSON THAN ANY OF THE PHOTOS :)
