My sources tell me that this quilt is close to 100 years old but I have no proof of that, I just know it’s been around a long while. It is very folk art in design and is composed of alternating flower and solid yellow blocks that measure approx. 11” square. There are 20 flower blocks. The flowers, stems, leaves and pots are appliquéd. The fabric was tacked on and then embellished with a blanket and straight stitches with black floss. This is all cotton and is probably feed or flour sack. It is all hand pieced and quilted. The quilting stitches measure about 5 to the inch. It is unusual in that the design runs long ways instead of across the width measuring 78” long and 61” wide. The cotton batting has gotten sparse and when held to the light, light can be seen in a couple of places through the top and backing. There are places where the quilting stitches have come undone. An easy fix for those of you that know how but it doesn’t detract from the quilt. The only hole is a small one on one of the flower stems. There are 3 small light stains. This has been stored in my non-smoking home and has no odors. This weighs 3 pounds by itself.
