They handcrafted wooden houses, tables, chairs, utensils, coat hangers, chests, and other furniture items. A popular item of this tradition was the ornamented bridal dowry chest. This chest, beautifully decorated with symbols of love and prosperity, contained a variety of household items and was presented to the bride. After marriage, the couple would utilize this chest to store their valuables. These dowry chests were also equipped with a metal lock and key or a secret opening for safekeeping. Later, as the trade grew, the craftsmen became well-known, highly skilled artisans that created works of art out of wood. They carved statues, decorative plates, and, most traditionally, wooden boxes of various shapes and sizes. This folk art of safekeeping emerged from the previous bridal dowry chests. Artisans incorporated many techniques into their works, such as burning, inlaying with brass, color staining with acrylic paints, and feathered joints for perfect corners in the boxes. Then, the artisans finished the wood for lasting protection. The art of box making presently exists in the southern mountain region of Poland and remains the signature symbol of Poland’s traditional culture.   Item #SLMB01                                               THANK YOU FOR VISITING                                                EUROPEAN CRAFTS       Powered by eBay Turbo Lister
