Navy poster featuring a drawing of a sailor reaching out to the ghost of a young child standing in a lifeboat for the R. M. S. Lusitania. Behind the child are the faces of other victims. William Allen Rogers, 1854-1931, was the artist and a popular illustrator for Harper’s Weekly. The headline reads: When You Fire, Remember This. The caption reads: Enlist In The Navy. The sinking of the Lusitania was a pivotal moment in coalescing anti-German opinion—especially in America—that led to the U. S. entering the war. The Lusitania was a passenger ship, also rumored to have been carrying munitions, that was sunk by a German submarine in waters near Kinsale Head, Ireland on May 7, 1915. The torpedoed ship sank in 18 minutes with a loss of life of 1195 people. It had sailed from New York and was on its way to Liverpool. This is a great addition to any collection of Lusitania memorabilia.
