WWI WW1 POLISH GERMAN POSTER SILESIA PARTITIONUp for sale is a new print of a remarkable German Polish poster from the era at the end of World War I. This poster was part of a German campaign to keep the Silesian region part of Germany. The poster contrasts the lot of Germans with that of the Poles. The upper left frame a prosperous and content man is shown smoking his pipe in front of a large house. This is contrasted by a portrayal of a dejected Polish family walking with their hands bowed. The German text reads: “Bei Deutschland dauern der Wohlstand; bei Polen, Armut und Auswanderung. The translation would be: “In Germany continued prosperity; in Poland poverty and emigration.†Just prior to the end of World War I, the territory of Silesia was part of Germany and Austria. In the period following World War I, the Versailles Treaty called for an election in Silesia to determine whether the territory was to continue as a part of Germany or would once again become part of Poland. Those who favored remaining with Germany won the day in all but portions of Upper Silesia where much of the population was Polish. The results of this vote produced an armed uprising. That uprising in turn resulted in The League of Nations return some of the industrial provinces to Poland. Franz Gottfried Kirchbach (1888-1942) was the artist for the poster in 1919. Rotophot, Berlin, produced the poster in 1920. This print is on a quality 100# high glossy text paper. The poster measures 10.5†(w) X 14.25†(h). It has a small border to allow for framing. When matted, this size is perfect for a standard 16†x 20†frame, a manageable size for a variety of decorating purposes. The condition of this item is new. SAVE ON MULTIPLE PURCHASES!!
