WWI WW1 POSTER 1915 BRITISH ARMY SOLDIER IN KILT 984Up for sale is a new print of a 1915 World War 1 Recruitment poster for the British Army. It shows a soldier in uniform, including a kilt. The soldier is holding a rifle and beckoning towards a pastoral English countryside in the background. The headline at the top reads: Your country's Call. The text at the bottom reads: Isn't this worth fighting for? ENLIST NOW. This is classic wartime poster work. Simple words combined with emotional illustrations produce a powerful impact. Jowett & Sowry, Leeds, produced the original lithograph on which this print is based. This British recruitment posters were overseen by The Parliamentary Recruiting Committee, who printed posters in editions of 25,000 and even 100,000! Anonymous artists produced most of them, including this one. PLEASE NOTE: The text at the top and bottom of this poster are reversed on a BROWN background, though it may appear to be black on some screens. This print is on a quality 100# high glossy text paper. The poster measures 10.5 inches (w) X 16.5 inches (h). It has a small border to allow for framing. The condition of this item is new.
