WWI WW1 US NAVY RECRUITMENT POSTER Sailor LLAMA The2FunAdGuyz offer a new, high-quality reproduction print of an unusual World War I US Navy Recruitment poster featuring US Navy sailors feeding a llama. In a nation that was, in 1917, still largely rural or small town, the US Navy offered the excitement of travel and adventure. To emphasize the travel and adventure aspect of service, the US Navy produced a series of slightly whimsical posters showing sailors enjoying themselves in a different foreign country. This particular poster shows two sailors, one holding a bird while another is feeding a llama a banana. A brightly dressed native is enjoying the scene. What is most unusual about this poster is the artwork--the style has hints of the modern, cubist style. Most military recruitment posters were done in a tradition emphasizing the heroic aspect of military service. This travel and adventure series features a different approach. This poster could as easily have been a travel poster. TEXT AT BOTTOM: “Come Along. Learn something, see something in the U.S. Navy. Ample shore leave for inland sights.†ARTIST: James H.
