The newsreels also include additional historical events of the era. All films and newsreels are described below. Here are all the films and newsreels that make up this historical collection: DVD 1: Documentaries Our Enemy: The Japanese (1943) This film gives a depiction of the Japanese as fanatical murders and builds a hugely negative and hateful stereotype to help the American forces get a proper understanding for and anger about their murderous and ruthless enemy. Producer: U.S. Army Air Forces Audio/Visual: Sound, Black & White Run time: 8:24 What Makes a Battle? (1944) Demonstrates the master strategy that was employed in the battle of the Marshall Islands. Details the use of land, air and sea forces to go in and crush the enemy. It points out that the Japanese were fierce foes and that of the 10,000 or so Japanese that were battled only 264 surrendered. The rest fought to the death. Producer: U.S. War Department, Army Pictorial Service Audio/Visual: Sound, Black & White Run time: 15:34 Japanese Relocation (ca. 1943) This films defends the Japanese internment program showing how they Japanese were relocated from the West Coast to inland relocation camps. It talks about how they relocated 100,000 people, many of whom were American citizens to these camps to guarantee safety agains espionage. Producer: U.S. Office of War Information Audio/Visual: Sound, Black & White Run time: 9:26 A Tale of Two Cities (1946) Film that shows the atomic bomb drops on the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan and the incredible damage caused to the cities and its people. Producer: U.S. War Department Audio/Visual: Sound, Black & White Run time: 12:02 Avenge December 7 (Pearl Harbor) (1942) War bond film designed to excite the people in the United States to buy war bonds to help destroy the Japanese in punishment for their attack on Pearl Harbor Producer: Unknown Audio/Visual: Sound, Black & White Run time: 1:45 My Japan (1945) A very powerful and violent anti Japanese film designed to help sell U.S. war bonds. Producer: U.S. Treasury Department Audio/Visual: Sound, Black & White Run time: 16:03 Pearl Harbor (short version) (1942) Film showing the horror of pearl harbor to whip up the fury of the United States as it starts to get into the war. Producer: Jam Handy Organization Audio/Visual: Sound, Black & White Run time: 3:20 A Challenge to Democracy This folm is focused on showing the American people that the Japanese interment camps were not like a summer camp for children. It showed that they had to work hard and that many of their needs were provided by their labor so that the government subsidized cost of the internment was very minimal. It also points out that most Japanese Americans are actually loyal citizens but it is necessary to take these steps to ensure safety. It even has a section showing Japanese American fighting units being trained to demonstrate the loyalty of most Japanese.
