Description

Please take a look in my store for other rarities:  http://stores.ebay.com/inspectore   Here's a real piece of history about the ship that wouldn't die!  March 19, 1945, dawn; hell swept upon the USS FRANKLIN (CV-13) http://www.ussfranklin.org/ with all her fury; killing almost 1000 men. Lt. Donald Gary is a true WWII war hero saving many lives.  Please take a few minutes and view these links. The following link is of Captain Gehres & Lt. Gary; http://www.ussfranklin.org/photos/page4/gehres_gary.htm If you see an error in my description, please notify me, I make plenty; lately, I can hide my own Easter Eggs! This auction is for the lot seen.  This from my Milo Boulton "WE, THE PEOPLE" collection.  And the truth is:  I have too much stuff, I'm getting real tired of moving it, sorting it, all the above.  I have boxes of this stuff. This belongs in an historical society.  Here goes:   President Truman is awarding Lt. Donald Arthur Gary with the Medal of Honor.  This 8x10 has a crease, and it is an OFFICIAL U.S. NAVY PHOTOGRAPH released 23 January 1946.  I gave a close-up of the back of this photo with a hand written postcard dated Jan 26, 1946.  It is from Don Gary and simply states "Dear Milo, I got it, Milo" signed Don Gary Other 8x10's is a portrait, 2/13/46 Celestials Luncheon with Donald Gary, Milo Boulton, Asst. Sec. of State Spruille Braden.   In this lot you will see Donald Gary's original files, and letters. Lt. Gary was denied his rights of acknowledged heroism at first.  Milo Boulton, "We, The People" was asked to help. Many letters were sent and received from top Washington brass.  I have many of these original letters/envelopes and with photographed copies. NAVAL AIR STATION SAN DIEGO, dated 4 December 1945 from L.E. GEHRES, Captain, USN and signed THE SECRETARY OF THE NAVY to Mr. Boulton dated 15 September 1945 signed Artemus L. Gates, acting Secretary of the Navy with envelope dated Sep 15 1945. STATE OF OHIO, FRANK J. LAUSCHE, GOVERNOR dated September 6, 1945 signed Frank J. Lausche with envelope dated Sep 7 1945, and other documents with envelope from Ohio dated Sep 21 1945 UNITED STATES SENATE Robert Taft, (son of President Taft) dated September 5, 1945 to Milo Boulton, signed Robert Taft with signed envelope dated Sep 5 1945 another set of letters "Dear Senator Taft" dated September 12, 1945.  These are finalized letters with what appears to be a stamped name and hand written date: 9/19/45 with a signed Robert Taft envelope dated Sep 19 1945. 3 page S-E-C-R-E-T typed document to The Secretary of the Navy, CC: CinCPac by H.H. HALE, unsigned I have given pictures of the rear of some of these documents so you can see the dents in the paper from the type. Another letter from J.H. Mohler, USN dated 1947 to Mr. Boulton, and some other misc. candid photos of Milo with his wife Duffy on the USS GARY.  There is also a stationery folder with USS GARY on the writting paper and envelopes. A final lot of letters, one to Milo Boulton from George Gary, Donald's son maybe??? and a letter from Mrs. Gary with Donald's obit.  One of the envelopes in embossed with their address.     To see the other auction click the link below: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=320269688423&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT&ih=011 This auction was cancelled due to the Purple Heart.  That lot is currently for sale without the purple heart. Other very interesting letters include; Letters from the USS PYRO Port in the Phillippines, Monday, June 11, 1945 speaking about Iwo Jima invasion the Okinawa deal, etc.  signed R.L. ELLIOTT CPC and a few other hand written ones. There is a copy from S.S. Kennedy, and many other commanders.  There are many original letters from government officials.
