This is a wonderful wolf fetish that Zuni fetish carver Jeffrey Tsalabutie carved from agate. This is a common stone found on the Zuni Reservation. It is a heavier stone than normal as though it has pyrite with the stone. This piece agate is black with dark green and dark grey striations throughout the stone. The Zuni often call this animal and others like the fox or coyote a "bushy tail" animal. This wolf has a beautifully carved face, long nose, pointed ears and a big bushy tail. Jeff has added an orange alabaster arrowhead adornment that he tied on the back of the wolf with a piece of branch coral and two lapis lazuli nuggets. Jeffrey has signed the bottom of the fetish with his name. This fetish is 3" long, and 1" wide and 1 1/2" tall. A wolf is the protective and hunting animal of the east.
