e4e REWARD OF MERIT – Large – Eagle - c 1840 - 255 Unknown printer on this nice large 1840’s reward with the eagle national symbol on it. Made out to M R Darby. Tape remnants on the back, only a small portion of which has bled through faintly to the front, otherwise excellent, crisp and clean. This is a nice reward. Size is 6 1/8" x 3 1/2â€. Choice Reward of Merit Collection I am disbursing my extensive personal collection of early rewards of merit assembled over the past 15-20 years and which include printed, manuscript and watercolor examples, the vast majority of which date to the 1800-1840’s era. Having always upgraded whenever I could, you will not only see pristine examples by the prolific publishers but will also see many scarce and rare specimens, including scarce rewards by known publishers, and rare specimens by publishers unlisted in Fenn & Malpa’s defining book on the topic “Rewards of Meritâ€. Some examples are unique and are not even represented within the extensive Malpa/Gardener collection of Rewards of Merit. Whenever possible I will list the printer/publisher/distributor of a particular reward, as well as the time period they were active. Even when not dated by a teacher, it is often possible to identify the specific time period by the publisher’s specific printed address or by the type, engraving and/or paper style. During the months ahead there will be many examples for every collector of rewards of merit, not only for those very new to this collecting area but also to those who have been very serious collectors for many years. Questions and Email Communications We encourage you to ask any and all questions regarding an auction item prior to placing your first bid on it. We are more than happy to provide additional scans or photos as needed, or elaborate on any descriptions that might help you in your decision process. Shipping and Insurance We normally ship paper items by First Class Mail, which is Free for any of our paper items and at absolutely no extra cost to you. However, First Class Mail shipments cannot be insured by the Postal Service. If you desire insurance on the shipment it must be sent by Priority Mail service. The extra cost for Priority Mail service is $4.80 which will cover shipments up to 1 pound in total weight. The insurance charge is in addition to this base charge according to the following USPS insurance fee schedule: $50 max ($1.70), $100 max ($2.15), $200 max ($2.60), $300 max ($4.60), then an additional $0.95 per $100 up to $5,000 coverage. Please be sure to include both the Priority Mail cost of $4.80 plus the appropriate insurance cost if you choose this optional shipment method. Please note that the above quoted postal service rates apply to shipments within the USA only. Payments We accept payment by PayPal, money order, and personal check. Our mailing address will be provided within the invoice sent to you following the auction close. Payment by personal checks in a high amount may be delayed for check clearance if the purchaser has limited ebay feedback. Guarantee of Originality and Condition as Described We guarantee that all of our items are “as described†in the listing regarding the item’s age, general overall condition, and also as shown by the accompanying photos within the listing. Should an item not be “significantly†as described, it may be returned to us for a full refund of the purchase price and the shipping you had paid to receive it. Please note that all of our items are antique, and as such will display appropriate evidence of age and use to varying degrees. We are not able to make note of every single possible rub, scrape, scratch, nick, discoloration area, etc. These more minor evidences of age are expected, and are not considered significant defects, and are even desirable to find on an antique piece as proof of its correct age. We will do our best to make note of anything significant within the description, or that might be difficult to see in the photos, so please read our entire description and look closely at all images provided to get a full understanding of that item’s condition and appearance. Note: Returns cannot be accepted for a change of heart, which is also known as “buyer’s remorseâ€. Please be sure beforehand that you want the item and are willing to pay your bid price if you are the successful bidder. It is against ebay rules not to complete an ebay transaction and is also unfair to other bidders that had wanted the item and had placed bids on it. Colors Depicted in Photos There are always color variations due to lighting, the item’s particular surface reflectivity, different display monitors, and user controlled display monitor settings. Therefore we cannot guarantee that the exact color or hue which you see on your own particular monitor will exactly match the color of the item in hand. Special note regarding small ephemera (paper) items. We will always digitally scan small ephemera items for better detail definition, rather than just photographing them. However, scanning almost always makes a paper item look worse in the scan than it will be in your hand, due to exaggerating the color variations. As we do not modify or alter any of our images, a scanned paper item will almost always look better in person than it appears in the auction scan. Nevertheless we will always still try to make note of any toning, foxing spots, folds, tears etc. that we readily see. Thank you We thank you for all of your interest in our auctions and our antique items. We hope that once you have had some experience purchasing from us you that will discover that we are both knowledgeable and trusted sellers of very genuine antiques.
