Back page has: "The Location of Martine's - While serving as a flight training officer at the Naval Air Station prior to the second World War, I had observed many times from the air the intersection of main traveled roads at this point which was then known as the Circle. I made up my mind then that it would be an ideal location for a restaurant, and, by good fortune, we were able to acquire the site. On the evening before our official opening in 1942, when we had only two public rooms, we entertained a group of fifty or more British flight students from the Naval Air Station. They were giving a party for their officer instructors as a gesture of regard. The tone of that high spirited group of young aviators facing over-seas service set the key for many similar gatherings we have been proud to entertain- convivial and friendly groups who wish to honor some person or some significant occasion.
